Open letter to the European Parliament on interoperability
Abilian co-signed an open letter in favour of interoperability, on behalf of SMEs in the European Internet industry, sent last month to MEPs and national delegations as part of the ongoing discussions on the Digital Markets Act.
[For us] interoperability can reduce the anti-competitive barriers created by the confinement of user bases within specific service providers, as a result of network effects or the use of closed proprietary solutions. New and innovative solutions can be brought to market, creating jobs and wealth in Europe. **Interoperability is essential to Europe's competitiveness in digital transformation.
It would, for example, enable Europeans concerned about data protection, or about the content curation algorithms of the dominant social media services, to have genuine alternatives "just a click away". It would also give Europe's SMEs, large businesses and public administrations greater choice, greater efficiency and lower costs, as they would have a wider range of suppliers for every task and would be able to obtain equipment, services and systems more closely tailored to their specific needs.
